Busy, busy weekend...(Part Two)

So, after the Graduation Party, it was time to hurry home and "bribe" the girls into taking a nap followed by a quick bubble bath. The tubbie was the easy part. They were not too excited about going to sleep, but they eventually did.

Wonder what they were dreaming about...more cupcakes maybe?

(On a sidenote...Couldn't get a cute picture of Kaleigh sleeping...she was face down covered in stuffed animals!)

We had to be at the Graduation Ceremony location by 5:45 pm to do the Processional Rehursal. Made it there by 6...not bad for a crazed Aunt & Mommy taking care of two Preschoolers, one toddler, and a clinging baby.

Here are the girls with some classmates waiting for all the guests to arrive. Kadence wanted to sit with the big kids too.

Just before the program was suppose to start, the kids were told to take a seat in the back of the auditorium. Kaleigh got to sit by Zachery. Kyla was a little pouty because she likes Zack...even made Brad & I go over and meet his father!

Her mood lifted when she was paired with Alejandro for the songs. She now cannot decide between marrying Zackery or Alejandro...I keep telling her that she has a few more years before she needs to make up her mind.

Here they are "rushing" the stage, almost knocking Ms. Wanda over.

And my two singing nightinggales...

After a quick costume change, they were ready to get into position and wait for "Pomp & Circumstance" to begin.

Kyla was eagerly looking forward to her solo walk across the stage.

Kaleigh was a bit more apprehensive.

And how cute is this photo of Kyla and her friend, Kylie.

Kyla walked down the aisle so fast that I couldn't get a photo...but we did get this one of her onstage beside Zachery.

Kaleigh was slower, but wouldn't lift up her head so I could get her face.

The first photos of the Preschool Graduates.

And the cap toss makes it official!

All the excitement made the girls a little tired, but they both loved looking at their diplomas and smelling their roses. Such sweet little ladies.

And in less than five years, it will be Bryleigh's turn to wear the cap and gown...

Thanks Ms. Sherri. Kyla & Kaleigh really enjoyed their time at your school. Are you sure that you don't want to add Kindergarden? I have two little girls that would sign up in a heartbeat!

So, here is to your first Graduation. The two of you did a wonderful job. Now enjoy the summer before you head on to your next adventure.

Wordless Wednesday - All Is Quiet On The Homefront 'Cause My Girls Are Sleeping

Guess What My Baby Girl Did!?!?

She said her first word last night!

And do you want to know what her first word was?

Mama!

Does this kid know how to get what she wants or what!

Busy, busy weekend...(Part One)

and things are finally starting to calm down again. Sorry that I haven't posted since the 14th but you know how quickly things can get out of hand...especially when you have a full schedule.

This past weekend was Preschool Graduation, so there was a party, practice, and the ceremony. Then there was also my nephew's 7th Birthday Party...at my house! Why do big events always seem to happen together? It would be so much easier to have 1 big event a weekend.

Here are some photos of the Preschool Graduation Party -

Kyla & Kaleigh were so excited to go back to their school to celebrate and practice of the Graduation Ceremony. As we walked into the school, you could hear the music from the front office and this was the doorway into their classroom.

We arrived kinda late because the baker didn't have the cake ready until after 10 am...but it was worth it. Really yummy!

Guess everyone else thougth so too!

I think the entire teaching staff wandered into the classroom to snag a piece of cake! Caught you Ms. Jessica!

The entire class was a blur of crazed 4 & 5 year olds hyped up on sugar...

Bryleigh just watched from her post with wide eyed excitement. In just a few short years, she will be one of the sugar-hyped Preschool Graduates-to-be!

They all worked so hard during practice. They are going to sing a couple of songs before the processional. Cannot wait to see it. The practice sure looked cute!

And here is Bryleigh. From the look on her face, she really wants that Cap & Gown.

Here is the whole graduating class...finally slowing down long enough for one last group photo!

Thank You Ms. Becca for your help in class.

And a really big Thank You to Ms. Wanda for being such a wonderful teacher. The girls were always so excited to go to school each day and sad to leave you in the afternoon.

Why is it so hard to say good-bye to wonderful teachers?

I Am At A Loss...

because I cannot get my mind wrapped around this situation. All I can do is request that prayers are offered up to comfort this family...

I received this prayer request e-mail from a good friend of mine. I had heard about this tragedy on the news, but never expected to have such a connection to the story. I cannot even begin to comprehend the pain that the family is feeling.

~~~
Hello Dear Friends,
I come to you this evening to ask for a very special prayer request. I called a very dear friend of mine today and she sounded quite upset and couldn't talk. I finally spoke to her this evening and she told me a tragically sad story that is almost unbearable. One of her very best friend’s had not heard from her own daughter, so she went to her daughter’s house yesterday and walked in to find her two grandchildren horrifically murdered and ran out, her husband went in and found her daughter, let’s just say horribly murdered also.
I feel soooo much emotion and pain for this woman I don’t know, but I am a mother. Pleeease, pass this on and ask for a pouring out of the Lord’s spirit to her for comfort and the strength to make through what must be the most difficult thing a mother could go through. She has questioned where God was when this was happening, which I think is normal. But, I pray in time, she will know that as my friend told her, He was there with them.
I don’t know what else to say, though I feel so compelled to say more...just please pray and let’s see what a “huge” prayer chain we can have for this mother and tragedy.
And, if I may add, that the Lord’s justice will prevail.
Thank you for your prayers,
S
Here is the link to the news story about the situation...
The news is reporting that the boyfriend has been arrested and charged with these horrific crimes.
I'm Going To The Park With Papa Ron!
This is the phrase that my 4-year old has been shouting from the roof tops since earlier this morning. My wonderful father-in-law asked if he could take Kyla to one of her favorite parks where the two of them could spend some fun time together.
As soon as he asked her out, she jumped out of bed and started getting ready. Less than 1/2 hour later, her bag was packed and waiting out front with her car seat & umbrella stroller. Then she spent the rest of the time making a picture of the two of them together, enjoying their day at the park. That was her special version of a Thank You note.
When he walked in the door, there were two very happy little girls. He sat down and held Bryleigh while he explained to her that she was too young to go with them, but that he could not wait until next year...
After some hugs and kisses, Bryleigh and I walked them to the car & waved good-bye.
Now Bryleigh & I can have some special time together. Can you belive that she is now 6 months old! At her doctor's appointment on the 12th, she weighed 16 lbs 8 ozs and was 26 1/4 inches long. My baby girl is growing up...and fast! Does anyone know where the pause button on a baby is located?
So...
how was your Mother's Day? Mine was great. I feel like we celebrated all weekend long. It started on Friday with a Mother's Day Tea at Kyla's Preschool. She was so excited to go to school. Not only did she get to wear "dressy" clothes, but she also knew that Mommy was going to spend the day with her.
She tried really hard to convince me to open the many gifts that she had made...the very same gifts that the teacher and her had to hide from me each time I picked her up from school in the days leading up to the Tea.
My niece, Kaleigh, was really proud of the gifts she made for her mommy.
And it was so nice that my sister could take a late lunch and enjoy this special time with KK.
And after countless shots, Kristie was finally able to take a good one of Kyla & I...even if it is a little off center...Just kidding Kris! :0)
I spent most of Saturday training for my new "work from home" job...but I was still able to squeeze in some great female bonding with my girls. We went shopping and had dinner out...Ladies Only!
On Sunday, my Baby Pumpkins and I picked up my father-in-law. The four of us went out for a nice breakfast. It was so nice to spend some time with him. He is such a wonderful man. My wonderful father-in-law is the greatest Mom Mom & Pa Pa...all rolled into one! Not only is he a grandpa for my girls, but he is also making sure to fulfill the hopes and dreams that my late mother-in-law had about being a grandmother. She unfortunately lost her fight with breast cancer before any of her children were able to give her the grandchildren she so dearly wanted. I know that she would be so proud of all of her beautiful granddaughters...all five of them! And she would also be so proud of her husband. How lucky and I that his son is just like him!
After breakfast, we headed to the airport to pick Brad up. He was out of town on a business trip, but made sure that he was home for my special day.
When we finally made it back home, the rest of my family came over for a cook out. We had grilled beef tenderloin, blue cheese potato salad, tomato & basil salad, and a wonderful white chocolate mousse. Everything was so yummy! The tomato & basil salad was so pretty that I had to take a picture...
I will try and post the recipes for the blue cheese potato salad and the white chocolate mousse in another post. Both of those dishes were devoured before I had the chance to take pictures!
Then we opened gifts. Kyla was so excited that she was wiggling like a puppy!
She made this rose all by herself. It was painted her favorite color...pink...and then she cut and glued it together. The flower even smelled like the real thing.
And this is my handcrafted Kyla Card. Again, she cut and glued everything by herself...even wrote a little special something inside...just for me. Very impressive...
This little treasure is her sweet little hand print. Not sure what I am going to do with it since the gift is too pretty to use as a stepping stone. Might have to find a plate holder and display it in my "new" work-from-home office! (Once I actually create one...right now I am set up in the eat-in-kitchen area...very messy.)
They made up a cute certificate. Not sure if you can read it, but she says that the reason she loves me is because I am a princess and like to eat apples! She knows me so well... :0)
This was a questionnaire that she had to answer. You will get a laugh out of some of her answers...and she was "technically" correct with all of her answers...even if I didn't like the way it came out.
When asked how old I was, she replied, "bigger than KK's mommy". Now KK is my niece and her mommy is my "older" sister....so that statement took me by surprise...then I looked at it from her point of view. When you are a child, all of the older kids are taller than you. So, because I am taller than my sister, in her mind, I am older than her too. And I also have her trained well about reveling a woman's age...that is a big "no no" in my house!
She was also asked what my favorite thing to do is...and her reply was "laundry and cooking"! How hysterical is that!!! I think she overheard me joking around with Brad about how much I "enjoy" spending my days cooking and washing all the loads of dirty laundry!
And how cute are these cards. Each of my precious angel babies gave me a card that made me laugh at the front and cry from the inside. I just love having girls! It is like I will never have to completely grow up!
My thoughtful husband gave me one of the best gifts that he has ever come up with. I had asked for some "practical" gifts...an child's seat for my bike, so Bryleigh and I can ride together when we take Kyla to school in August...or the outdoor living furniture that I want for the courtyard that we are going to be completing. Instead of those...he gave me the gift of his time. My "work-a-holic" husband purchased a purse-sized calendar and made the promise that at the beginning of each month, the two of us will sit down together and plan two date nights, as well as 6 days where he will come home "early" from work. All I can say is that he was really listening all those times that I told him that his time was more valuable to me than a huge bank account! Can I love this man any more than I already do?!?!?
Now this last picture is why I love being a mom. My two girls are so very precious to me. The sight of their smiling faces each morning is a joy to me...and their melodious laughter is a treasure that I keep in my heart. How very lucky I am that God blessed me with these two babies to love and lead.
I think there needs to be a National Holiday to celebrate our children, don't you?
(Wish that I could claim authorship for this lovely bit of wisdom, but alas, I am not this talented...)
This is for all the mothers, who have sat up all night with sick toddlers in their arms, wiping up puke laced with Oscar Mayer wieners and cherry Kool-Aid saying, "It's okay honey, Mommy's here". Who have sat in rocking chairs for hours on end soothing crying babies who can't be comforted.
This is for all the mothers, who show up at work with spit-up in their hair and milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse. For all the mothers who run carpools and make cookies and sew Halloween costumes. And all the mothers who DON'T.
This is for all the mothers, who gave birth to babies they'll never see. And the mothers who took those babies and gave them homes. And the mothers that will have to wait to see their babies in Heaven.
This is for all the mothers, whose priceless art collections are hanging on their refrigerator doors. And for all the mothers who froze their buns on metal bleachers at football , hockey or soccer games instead of watching from the warmth of their cars, so that when their kids asked, "Did you see me, Mom?" they could say, "Of course, I wouldn't have missed it for the world," and mean it.
This is for all the mothers, who yell at their kids in the grocery store and swat them in despair when they stomp their feet and scream for ice cream before dinner. And for all the mothers who count to ten instead, but realize how child abuse happens.
This is for all the mothers, who sat down with their children and explained all about making babies. And for all the (grand) mothers who wanted to, but just couldn't find the words.
This is for all the mothers, who go hungry, so their children can eat. For all the mothers who read "Goodnight, Moon" twice a night for a year. And then read it again. "Just one more time."
This is for all the mothers, who taught their children to tie their shoelaces before they started school. And for all the mothers who opted for Velcro instead.
This is for all the mothers, who teach their sons to cook and their daughters to sink a jump shot.
This is for all the mothers, whose heads turns automatically when a little voice calls "Mom?" in a crowd, even though they know their own offspring are at home – Or even away at college.
This is for all the mothers, who sent their kids to school with stomach aches, assuring them they'd be just FINE once they got there, only to get calls from the school nurse an hour later asking them to please pick them up Right away.
This is for all the mothers, whose children have gone astray, who can't find the words to reach them.
For all the mothers who bite their lips until they bleed when their 14 year olds dye their hair green.
For all the mothers of the victims of school shootings, and the mothers of those who did the shooting. For the mothers of the survivors, and the mothers who sat in front of their TVs in horror, hugging their child who just came home from school, safely.
This is for all the mothers, who taught their children to be peaceful, and now pray they come home safely from a war.
What makes a good Mother anyway?
Is it patience? Compassion? Broad hips? The ability to nurse a baby, cook dinner, and sew a button on a shirt, all at the same time? Or is it in her heart? Is it the ache you feel when you watch your son or daughter disappear down the street, walking to school alone for the very first time? The jolt that takes you from sleep to dread, from bed to crib at 2 A.M. to put your hand on the back of a sleeping baby? The panic, years later, that comes late at night when you just want to hear their key in the door and know they are safe again in your home? Or the need to flee from wherever you are and hug your child when you hear news of a fire, a car accident, a child dying?
The emotions of motherhood are universal and so our thoughts are for young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep deprivation...And mature mothers learning to let go. For working mothers and stay-at-home mothers. Single mothers and married mothers. Mothers with money, mothers without.
This is for you all. For all of us.
Hang in there. In the end we can only do the best we can.
Tell them every day that we love them. And pray.
"Home is what catches you when you fall - and we all fall."
